Robert and I recently celebrated our two year wedding anniversary, which feels totally bonkers. We honestly still feel like little kids pretending to be adults most of the time. (Does this feeling ever go away?) Our summer was pretty jam-packed with random trips and wedding stuff for friends, so we didn’t do anything too crazy to celebrate. A simple dinner out at our favorite local restaurant was all we needed – we put the phones away, caught up with each other, reminisced, and got a little bit tipsy. We were supposed to hang out with friends afterwards but that didn’t happen, and we were secretly (or not so secretly) excited to just go to bed early on a Friday night (because we’re actually sixty years old). I did one of these “top posts” roundups last year and it was really fun for me to see what was the most popular with all of you on the interwebs. As 2015 drew to a close, I was highly anticipating this moment so I could see what truly came out on top. I’m a numbers and charts kind of person, so I love looking at stats and data and all that stuff. Some highlights in my mind were the super fun Feast of St. Pizza post (where myself and a bunch of friends visited 10 pizza places in one day in my hometown of Lebanon, PA), talking about my wedding (and sharing my wedding cake recipe), plus my honeymoon (parts one and two, which included a recipe for the amazing kouign amann pastry from France), and let’s not forget about the #virtualpumpkinparty (more on that below). Another month has gone by. Ahhhhhh!!!! Is it really September already? Geesh. These posts are always a fun way for me to look back on the past month as a whole, and it reminds me of how lucky I am. Usually something really fun has gone down in the past couple of weeks. August is no exception. Near the beginning of the month my blogging friend Kelsey (from Appeasing a Food Geek) visited for the weekend. We had so much fun. I took her to some of my favorite restaurants and we worked on a joint blog post about waffles together. That will be coming at you soon! Then I fulfilled a long-time blogging goal by writing an article for Food52. I shared my grandmother’s hot milk cake recipe (shared on my site as the “Golden Milk Cake“) as part of their Heirloom Recipes column. It was a nice feeling to be able to honor my grandmother in such a public way. [Read more…]
As I mentioned in my Paris post, the fig pizza we had at Pink Flamingo was one of our favorite meals of our honeymoon. Despite the fact that we were in France, our favorite meals in Paris included that pizza and the sushi at Miss Ko. Honestly, the French probably should have kicked us out of the city. They didn’t, thank goodness. But anyway – our first wedding anniversary is on Sunday, so I thought recreating that pizza would be a great way for me to celebrate on the blog. [Read more…]
Since we’ve already passed our six-month wedding anniversary, it’s about time I talked about that day on here. And oh, what a day it was. Actually, it was an epic weekend that led into an epic honeymoon (and I’ll talk about that eventually, too). There’s so much I could possibly say about that day, but I’m going to start with a little wisdom for you:
Two maids of honor are better than one. Also, it helps to have a constant group text message going between you and your two maids of honor. I don’t really know how people planned weddings before there were emojis. This bride would not have survived without the crying face, head massage and poop emojis. Words just can’t express wedding stress and anxiety like an emoji can. Or several. AND, a wedding should never be planned alone, so surround yourself with special people who can make things easier for you along the way. [Read more…]
In the month of August I had a really fun bachelorette night/weekend, got married, and went on my honeymoon to France. You can’t really beat that. In case you were wondering, that’s why this place has been so silent for the past month. I’m excited for some blog posts that have been on the back burner and will hopefully be published here as soon as I can get my life at home back in order and get into the swing of things again. Although I had an amazing time in the Finger Lakes for my wedding and then in France for my honeymoon, it feels good to be back home – with my HUSBAND, working at a job I love, getting caught up on my podcast listening, blogging, and spending time in my kitchen once again. Expect some more in-depth blog posts in the future regarding our wedding and honeymoon. In the meantime, feel free to check out #robertandsarawedding and #corneliushoneymoon on Instagram to get filled in. I’ve included some snippets of our photo booth fun from the wedding below. Merci, au revoir! [Read more…]
Soooo I don’t know about you guys, but I feel like July didn’t even exist? This past month was more about “X number of weeks until the wedding!” I’ve definitely had some trouble sleeping with all of this anticipation leading up to it (now with only about two weeks to go! Yikes!), and even had a few wedding nightmares, including one where I was my own bridesmaid. (???) In the dream I was of course trying to figure out how I would walk down the aisle while also being a bridesmaid. These are the things I worry about apparently. This time next month I will be a married woman and also someone who can say they’ve been to Paris. That’s crazy! Otherwise I guess things will be about the same, perhaps less crazy, but I’ll be wearing another ring on my left hand and perfecting my new signature. Honestly, I’m a little worried about that. How many times am I going to sign “Lenton” instead of “Cornelius?” I’m guessing it’s probably like writing the wrong year on a check but way more intense. Hopefully I make it through. But anyway, here are some fun things from this month: [Read more…]
Today I’m talking about something other than food (kinda)! Valerie from Nuance and Bubbles asked me to contribute some wedding planning tips to her lovely blog. I’m over there today talking about two of my favorite parts of the planning process (other than the dress): color palettes and …. you would never guess – cake. Yep. Be sure to check it out! (I also created this illustration for the post of my wedding and engagement rings.)
PS- you can read more about my wedding here.
Prints of my illustrations are available in my Etsy shop.
These end-of-the-month posts have really been sneaking up on me lately. They’ve also turned into a really nice way to look back on the past month of my life and think about all that has happened, especially in this crazy time that I am going through right now. So here’s a little look into what’s been going on lately and what I’ve been loving: [Read more…]
