It’s an exciting day because I finally get to tell you what I’ve been working on … I HAVE A PODCAST! It’s called Passports & Pizza and I’m co-hosting it with my friend Laura of the travel blog Roam + Golightly. Our tagline is “a podcast about everything by two carb-loving, carry-on only gals.” While we’ll touch on all kinds of topics, you can expect a lot of fun food and travel-related content on there. My Favorite Podcasts, Volume 4
Welcome to my 4th annual list of my favorite (new to me) podcasts. Over the last few years, my podcast choices have shifted away from food and more into politics and news. If you read my End of 2017 Wrap-Up post, then you know that 2017 was a rough year for me, and a lot of that had to do with what’s going on in our country these days. I’m an anxious person and all of this drama doesn’t exactly put me in a great place. I like to squash my anxiety by gaining control of situations, so for me right now this means surrounding myself with as much political information as possible, and especially in the form of podcasts. I know some people with anxiety about our current state of political affairs would probably want to jump off a cliff if they listened to as much political gossip as I do. It’s definitely a balancing act for me as well, and some days I have to turn off the news and listen to an interview or a silly podcast instead. I’ve got a little bit of everything for you down below. [Read more…]
My Favorite Podcasts of 2016
Well, here we are again. This is my third year doing a roundup of my favorite podcasts. (Here’s year one and year two.) I thought the first one would be sufficient, but then I had so many new favorites last year I had to write another one, and this year I have about 30 more for you. The podcast world has been exploding, they just keep getting better, and I couldn’t be happier about it. If you’re new to this place, I survive on podcasts: listening on my commutes, all day long at work (like a solid 5-6 hours of listening per day), doing the dishes, running, cooking, working on illustrations for this blog, etc. They’re seriously the best for whenever you’re doing something repetitive that leaves your brain free to roam. My Favorite Podcasts That Inspire, Inform and Entertain
As some of you may know, I etch gravestones for a living. The nature of this job allows for me to spend hours every day listening to podcasts. And oh boy do I take advantage of that – on average I probably spend about six hours of my work day listening to podcasts. I also listen to them while working on the illustrations for this blog (if I’m not indulging in one of my guilty-pleasure TV shows in the corner of my computer screen). I understand that not everyone has the ample podcast-listening time that I’m accustomed to, but there are plenty of little moments in our daily lives that would be perfect for a podcast: road trips (obviously), dish-washing, laundry-folding and other general cleaning tasks, as well as a long, tedious cooking project (with lots of chopping, stirring, etc.) or caramel-wrapping (for you edible gifters out there) and gift-wrapping are all perfect times to enjoy a podcast. Basically any brainless task that allows your precious mind to wander can be a great chance to get lost in a podcast. And since they don’t require the attention of your eyeballs, they are much better suited to multi-tasking than television. [Read more…]
