Spring 2017 Cookbooks | Cake Over Steak

If you’ve spent any time on this blog you know that I LOVE COOKBOOKS. They bring me endless amounts of joy – I love to hold them, flip through them, read them from cover to cover, and try out as many recipes from them as I can manage (which is often way less than I would like). This year there were so many good ones coming out, quite a few of them from my blogging friends, so I just had to do a full-blown cookbook roundup post. This post was supposed to come out about 2 months ago, but then I went and bought a house unexpectedly. Life happens. Better late than never, here are some of my favorites from the spring season:  [Read more…]

Overnight Pancakes with The Ultimate Pancake Syrup | Cake Over Steak

Since I’m a crazy person who tries to schedule every minute of her days, I don’t usually end up with a spare moment to read cookbooks until the few minutes before I go to sleep. But – this actually gives me a solid way of judging how good a cookbook is: In those brief moments before I get too drowsy to continue reading, how hungry does it make me? With Joy Wilson’s new book, Homemade Decadence, I would not be hungry at all when I got into bed, but then suddenly be starving and have to put the book down so I wouldn’t be forced to escape to the kitchen to eat an entire jar of peanut butter. Those nights I went to bed dreaming of chocolate peanut butter pretzel cakes, sausage and blackberry breakfast pizza, and bourbon chocolate pecan pie bars. One night it went so far that, while I was half asleep, I asked Robert what kinds of pies he was making and if there was any left. Clearly this book went to my head.  [Read more…]

Things I’m Loving: January 2014

Things I'm Loving January 2014

Can I just say WTF for a second about the fact that it’s January? Of 2014? The END of January? What. The. Eff. Now whenever anyone mentions 2012, I have to think SO HARD about whether or not that was “last year.” I know people say that time goes more quickly the older you get, but 2013 was my fastest year by far. It feels like it was a little blip in the space-time continuum. For example, I have about 7 months left to plan my wedding. That might sound like a lot, but I’m freaking out on the inside (and on the outside) because I’ve already been engaged for five months and it feels like Robert proposed a couple weeks ago. So, yeah. Twenty Fourteen – you scare me, but bring it on. Here’s what I’ve been crushing on lately: [Read more…]
